Lysergic acid diethylamide, better known as LSD or acid, is one of the best known drugs around. It has become famous for its psychedelic and psychological effects.

Though not addictive, LSD can lead to psychological problems such as paranoia and delusions, especially if somebody has a bad trip or becomes injured while under the influence. Yet the unique and memorable high outweighs that, making LSD so popular.

Developed by Swiss scientist Albert Hofmann in 1938, LSD was later used in infamous CIA experiments, given to unsuspecting test subjects. Today, LSD is still best associated with the 1960s counterculture as well as artists and musicians from that era. The drug causes such intense visual hallucinations and increased sensory effects that is has inspired ‘trippy’ art, music, and poetry.

While those who have taken LSD try their best to describe what the world looks like during a trip, most will agree that you have to actually experience it firsthand to truly feel it. Though… That didn’t stop us from gathering a few pictures to show you what it’s like.
